Biography

  • After meeting in their hometown of Oklahoma, US, Austin Winkler (vocals), Cody Hanson (drums) and Joe ‘Blower’ Garvey (guitar) the trio instantly clicked and went on to form rock band Hinder in 2001.

Once recruiting bass player Cole Parker, the now completed line-up set began their quest for fame as they began producing original material with the result in the form of demos “Someday” and “Broken” which would end up featuring in their debut EP “Far From Close” eventually released in 2003 through indie label Brickden Records. Having drummed up local support by playing in plenty of hometown shows and taking part in music competitions to help fund their releases.

In 2004 after Parker’s departure, the band were joined by Mark King (rhythm guitar) and Mike Rodden (bass). Following the release of “Far From Close”, the band received label interest from Atlantic, Roadrunner and Universal, eventually signing with Universal Records in 2005. With their new label on board Hinder released their debut full length album “Extreme Behaviour” later that year peaking at number three in the US charts and going triple platinum. The album featured the hit singles “Lips of an Angel”, “Get Stoned” and “Better Than Me”. Spending subsequent years touring nationwide and across the glove, Hinder shared the stage with the likes of: Papa Roach, Puddle of Mudd, Buckcherry, “3 Doors Down” and “Theory of a Deadman”.

Bestowed with one of the highest local honours, in 2007 Hinder were inducted into the Oklahoma Hall of Fame with the Rising Star Award joining Carrie Underwood, Woody Guthrie and Wanda Jackson. The following year the band released their second album “Take It to the Limit” which debuted in the US album charts at number four. After releasing two further albums “All American Nightmare” (2010) and “Welcome to the Freakshow” (2012), the band parted ways with Winkler and was later replaced by Marshall Dutton.

In 2015, Hinder took to crowdfunding website Pledge for their fifth studio album “When The Smoke Clears”, offering rewards and exclusive access to contents to loyal fans also known as the Hinder Army who pledge from opportunities to tour manage the band for a day to personalised gifts. With an independent label and an allegiance of fans behind them, Hinder are stronger than even ever as they embark on this new chapter.

Live reviews

  • Hinder

Oklahoma rockers Hinder have amassed both a huge reputation and even huger fan base since the release of debut album 'Extreme Behavior' in 2005. Their dedication to a classic hard rock sound appeals with the masses who grow tiresome of seeing acts these days who rely heavily on gimmicks and tricks to really conduct a live show.

All that Hinder needs to put on a huge gig is their instruments, their talent and their loyal fan base. All are present this evening and the cheers erupt from the very first beating of the drum to the final guitar string pluck. There are anthemic renditions of 'Up All Night' and 'Use Me' to kick off proceedings and the fans instantly mosh as one and surge to the front of the stage.

An extended version of 'Homecoming Queen' with a blistering guitar solo receives the biggest cheers of the night before the band intelligently follow it up with their most commercial release 'Lips of an Angel' as the crowd proudly sing the recognisable chorus. By the finale of 'Get Stoned' the audience is a sweating, swirling, moshing collective and they could not look more pleased with the show they have witnessed.

  • Hinder is one of my favorite bands. If you like good solid hard rock then Hinder is the band for you. They remind me a lot of Aerosmith in their younger days.

These guys brought back the rock ballads with Lips Of An Angel. It has been a while since we all heard the softer side of hard rock. Hinder proves you can still be a bad ass with a soft side.

When you see them live you can't help but want to jump on stage and rock out with them. Their live performance sounds a little more raw compared to their studio recordings. That's the beauty of seeing them live. The little imperfections are heard but you know this band is real. No band sounds the same as they do in studio. If they do then you can bet there is some lip syncing going on.

Their lead singer has a strong powerful vocals that really grab your attention. They sound like the blues and hard rock had a baby. I can honestly say they are one of my favorite bands. If they come around to your neck of the woods and you want superb entertainment, get your buddies together and go check them out. You will be glad you did. Hinder is definitely worth more than ticket price.
